#paeds see also: [[Local anaesthetic systemic toxicity|lignocaine toxicity]], [[local anaesthetic]] # Topical anaesthesia ## EMLA - priolocaine + lignocaine - onset effective 45 min - 1 hour (65% of children have effect) - less effective than AnGEL but less skin rxn - disadvantages: some local vasoconstriction, contraindicated age <6 months ([[Methemoglobinemia]]) ## AnGEL - 4% amethocaine (tetracaine) - onset after 20 min - 15% local rxn -- transient erythema/oedema/itch - advantages: faster, more effective than EMLA, no vasoconstriction
