#TOXINology see also: [[Redback spider]] Antidote:: CSL Funnel-web spider antivenom 2 amps ==clinical features develop rapidly within 30 min - 2 hours:== > resp failure > hypotension or hypertension > pulm oedema > coma **Appearance** - body length 1.5 - 4 cm - dark brown body with shiny cephalothorax - ​fangs are 4 mm long and point downwards - ​male spider; - smaller than females but more adventurous - venom 5x as toxic as female - all deaths from males **Management** - pressure imobilisation - antivenom: - 250 units (2 vials) slow IV - 500 units (4 vials) severe envenomation - same dose in adults and kids - repeat Q30-60 min until significant clinical features have resolved **Indications for antivenom** - evidence of systemic envenomation - peri-oral tingling - muscle fasiculations - tongue and lips first affected - salvation/lacrimation - piloerection - tachycardia/hypertension - nausea - dysponea (pulm oedmea) - ALOC **Issues** - anaphylaxis to antivenom ![[Pasted image 20240415091453.png]]
