- 15% develop into toxic phase , of whom 20-50% die
# signs/symptoms
- malaise, backache, nausea/vomiting, headache, fever/chills, myalgia
# Diagnostic testing
- elevated AST/ALT
- prolonged PT and PTT
- thrombocytopenia
- increased direct bilirubin with relatively nrmal ALP
- Yellow fever-specific IgM and IgG can finfirm diagnosis
- some cross-reactivity with other flaviviruses
- because viremia only lasts for 3 days, *PCR is of limited value unless early in disease*
# Treatment
- supportive
- paracetamol
- avoid NSAIDs because of bleeding risks
# Prevention
- mosquito nets
- S/c live-attenuated yellow fever **vaccine** if traveling to high risk areas
