# Erythroblastosis fetalis
- extramedullary haematopoesis → high levels of nucleated red cells
- haemolysis → ↑ bilirubin (neurotoxic, but should be removed by placenta)
- cardiac failure
- oedema
- ascites
- pericardial effusion
- disturbed liver function
# ABO haemolytic disease
- milder than isoimmunisation by Rh and other antigens
- 25% of pregnancies have potential maternal-infant ABo incompatibility
- <10% have any problems
- almost always ==group A or B infants of group O mothers==
- neonatal direct Coombs' test may be positive or negative
**features**
- serious fetal effects rare
- **early [[neonatal jaundice]] <24 hours requiring phototherapy in 10%**
- kernicterus almost never occurs
