> Any disturbance in the refraction of light may cause blurred vision. Including, but not limited to:
> - corneal infiltrates ([[Eye infections]] or foreign body)
> - [[eye trauma]]
> - pupillary dilation ([[Mydriasis]]), which results in an increase in the scatter of light rays reaching the lens)
> - changes in the refractive properties of the lens or vitreous, which can be seen with corneal edema from rapid osmotic changes.
>
> Blurred vision may also result from transductive dysfunction due to retinal or optic nerve inflammation or edema.
## DDx
- [[Optic neuritis]] — usually monocular
- [[Papilloedema]] (eg ↑ ICP) — usually binocular
- Toxic metabolic disturbance — usually binocular . Eg [[toxic alcohols#Methanol]]
Macular degeneration
The below table overlaps with many causes and approaches to eye abnormalities eg [[Diplopia]], [[Painful loss of vision|painful]] and [[Painless loss of vision|painless]] loss of vision, [[Stroke]], [[Red eye]], [[vertigo]], and [[eye trauma]].
