**Traumatic causes**
- traumatic mydriasis (blunt injury to iris sphincter and dilator muscles)

- [superior orbital fissure fracture](https://eyewiki.org/Superior_Orbital_Fissure_Syndrome) - fixed dilated pupil, not RAPD. also ophthalmoplegia, ptosis
- optic nerve injury

**features of a third nerve palsy:**
