AKA *Vitamin B6* Toxin:: [[Isoniazid]] not to be confused with pralidoxime **indications** - [[Isoniazid]] toxicity - chloramphenicol induced optic neuritis - ethylene glycol toxicity - mushroom toxicity containing hydrazine - theophylline induced seizures **administration** - light sensitive -- don't store in dark - don't mix with HCO3 - SAFE in pregnancy (Cat A) **Dose** - 50mg/1ml most common ampoule - give 5g IV over 3-5 min in adults (100 ampoules) - repeat Q10-15 min until seizures controlled - paeds dose: 70 mg/kg to max of 5g if ingested amount is known, then use same amount of pyridoxine as the amount ingested (gram for gram) **adverse effects** - may transiently increase acidosis (pH of 3) - tachyponea - orthostatic hypotension
